'Went looking for Unity
Found none
No unity — not in the Inaugural speech, executive orders, or Church!
I looked for “friendly” constituents who voted for Trump. The biggest groups are Republican elected officials and rural communities. The orders target these two key groups and others.
Many Republican members of Congress were not happy once they learned the president had pardoned, or commuted sentences, of all Jan. 6th protesters. These Members of Congress and their staff were the people whose lives were seriously threatened by Jan 6th protesters.
This is the video which details January 6th, 2001—the day of the Capitol attack. It uses multiple sources, including security and body camera footage, to walk viewers through the attack on the Capitol.
Five policeman died and many others were injured. The people who committed these crimes are now released from prison. Any day now, we can expect them to meet these people on the street.
Windows and doors of the Capitol were broken and artifacts destroyed or stolen. Vice President Pence and Speaker Pelosi were targeted, but not found; the protesters’ intent was to use the gallows they build to hang both of them.
Some GOP members had hoped that Trump’s executive orders would be directed only at nonviolent offenders who broke into the Capitol that day, but no, his blanket pardon include the most violent January 6th protesters. These Jan. 6th leaders now say they will seek retribution.
I live five blocks from the U.S. Capitol. I saw the damage. I have friends who work there, friends who tried to protect their bosses, friends who were forced to push furniture against doors and to hide in closets. I believe many of these attackers are truly dangerous so this is to ask you:
If your path crosses any of them, please watch and document them closely. It is likely that they will gather again to try again to destroy our democracy.
I’m a Democrat but I have a lot of respect for Members of Congress who tell it like it is, e.g., Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) was straightforward, saying, “I just can’t agree.” Tillis added that the executive action “raises legitimate safety issues on Capitol Hill.”
Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) also specifically objected to Trump’s blanket pardons. Both voted to impeach Trump in 2021. Cassidy told CNN: “I’m a big ‘back-the-blue’ guy. I think people who assault police officers — if they do the crime, they should do the time.”
I stand with Senator Cassidy and other members who speak up. We all need to do so.
There are many other orders to discuss but farmers and rural communities did not fair well. Trump’s other executive orders relate to taxes, tariffs, fuel, and workers. So far, he has delayed tariffs to Mexico and Canada, but deadlines have been announced for these countries and many others. Any rules yet to be finalized, were ordered frozen, e.g., the clean fuel tax incentive guidance unveiled earlier this month. Both legal and illegal immigrants were targeted and will likely mean worker shortages on farms at harvest time and in meat and other food processing plants all year. Trump did not stop with immigrants. He also targeted the American citizen children of undocumented immigrants.

Heartbreaking
Good to know your neighbor is disgusted. Wonder how long he’ll hold out. Personally I think we and our democracy are toast 😳😕
