Dear Senator Schumer, it's time to go
Your welcome is cold.
Our patience is thin. It’s that moment again. We’re not friends anymore.
Whether we agreed or disagreed about the government shutdown doesn’t matter now. It’s still time for you to leave. You quietly maneuvered to make those deals, and just like in campaign season, you forgot to represent us all.
You stayed silent each time we needed you—silent with your voice, silent in your fundraising, silent when your regional biases prevented you from supporting the strongest of our challenging candidates.
You should know when it’s time to step down. Even though you lost the Senate Majority, you did not go.
You let us down in the 2022 elections by failing to support two of the strongest candidates in the field—Iowa 3-Star Admiral Mike Franken, ret., and Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan. Why? Perhaps you were afraid they would be too strong. Maybe you feared they might push back. You also turned your back on North Carolina’s Cheri Beasley that year.
You failed us again in 2024. This time, it was Missouri—Lt. Colonel Lucas Kunce, retired Marine and from Nebraska—Independent Dan Osborn, labor leader extraordinaire.
All five of these Senate candidates came close, but you said, “No!” None of the above. Apparently, they weren’t “silk stocking” enough for you. Maybe you were afraid or too busy writing your book.
Five progressive senators would be quite valuable now, yet you said, “No!”
Where have you been these past few months? Quiet? Silent? Awake?
Maybe you were working on your book? Books are lovely, but we need to face the future now.
Our democracy is under threat, our allies have been betrayed, Social Security and Medicaid are at risk, and all you can think to do is vote with the Republicans and cancel your book tour.
The chatter is old. Say farewell, Senator Schumer. It’s time for you to go.
