Chaos on the War Front
So many wars, so little time.
Trump does what he can get away with. In Davos, Switzerland, Trump learned he can’t get away with seizing Greenland or imposing tariffs on our NATO allies. Will this stay permanent? Could the lesson of how Norway and other NATO allies stood strong make them a role model?
I hope so, but I doubt it. Likely, it will take a lot more lessons. The first rule for opposing tyranny and bullies is to “Never obey in advance.”
Sadly, our Congress has consistently failed to uphold this rule in 2025.
Can we agree on these points?
Successful presidents do not start wars.
Successful presidents do not pick fights with long-standing allies.
Successful presidents do not coddle our nation’s enemies.
Successful presidents can tell the difference between wars necessary for our security and those that are not.
Wars are expensive. Currently, we have three, with a fourth teed up by Trump. Israel and Ukraine are ongoing, both necessary for our security.
Note: We don’t have enough money to fund food for hungry kids, healthcare for all, or public schools, but somehow, we have plenty of money to kidnap people, buy a country, and offer big tax breaks for billionaires.
When our president uses our military to steal Venezuela’s president, does that mean we’re at war? We’ve heard no recent mention of drugs, but our president has put himself in charge, even though he has other candidates, including Rubio, Stephen Miller, Venezuela’s VP, and BIG OIL? BIG OIL is the money-making prize.
Trump’s next target for war is Greenland. It’s Trump’s latest surprise, adding to the “distraction” tally that diverts us from the business at hand – business like the Epstein Files, the unlawful war on immigrants and people of color, and, most important, Jack Smith’s testimony.
Trump started with an offer to buy Greenland, or grab it, sort of like a door prize for his “shattered” ego after failing to earn the Nobel Peace Prize.
Anne Applebaum told the story most eloquently. Read the letter Trump wrote word-for-word here. The most incredible, and most ridiculous, line of it is: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.”
When has Trump ever thought “purely of Peace?”
GREENLAND. Europe is taking Trump’s threats seriously. If Trump can kidnap and hold Venezuela’s Maduro, could he kidnap Greenland’s leader, too?
Greenland
Greenland, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, is self-governing in domestic matters, but relies on Denmark for foreign policy, monetary policy, and defense. Denmark and Greenland are committed to its NATO membership, and so are we — the United States of America, but OOPS! Our president is not!
So here we are, with Trump threatening war again, forcing our allies to defend Greenland, a US ally, from us! Eight European countries sent troops to Greenland to defend it. They are:
The big three —Britain, France, Germany, also the Netherlands, and the four Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden — all US allies and NATO members.
Foreign policy everywhere turns to CHAOS.
Putin — Trump’s pal, or maybe his blackmailer — not only won’t stop making war on Ukraine but is also nibbling at war toward Germany, Norway, and the Baltics.
Trump’s reticence to help Ukraine results in more WAR CHAOS.
The CHAOS of war is also inside our country. See ICE making war on Minnesota daily.
We have a president who is heading down the path toward seriously, mentally ill. Maybe he is already there.
Sane presidents do not start wars.
Sane presidents do not start big fights with their allies.
Sane presidents do not attack countries (for oil).
Sane presidents can tell the difference between wars necessary for our safety and those that are not.
If we’re not careful, Trump will get us into a serious war, and we’ll be on the wrong side.
CHAOS is not the solution.
Nor is pretending all this mess will go away. It is time to let go of the idea that everything will return to normal once Trump leaves. NO! It won’t! We will have to work hard to get things back in working order. The Congress will have to find its backbone. At least some of the federal talent Trump fired will need to be re-hired before we lose our edge in science.
The good thing. Americans are beginning to get it.
Only 4% of Americans believe Trump should do whatever it takes to grab Greenland, but who knows? Do they even know where Greenland is?
