I confess. I took a sabbatical, or — to skip the fancy word, I took a break from writing over the holidays, but today, the world shook. I cannot stay quiet.
Most newsworthy today was Elon Musk, who saluted new President Trump with a Nazi salute (three times) and was cheered for it by minions in the audience. See the picture.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which campaigns against antisemitism, defines the Nazi salute as “raising an outstretched right arm with the palm down.”
Of course, there are other kinds of news, e.g., fashion. First Lady Melania Trump wore black. That so-last-year jacket that said, “I really don't care, do you?" must be out.
Instead, BLACK is BACK, or maybe BLACK and BLUE have gotten together. See Melania in her black boater-style hat here. Others are wondering. Did Melania pick her new wide-brimmed BLACK boater-style hat to fend off the new President’s kisses?
Bubblegum pink also seems to be in. Usha, i.e., the mostly forgotten wife of Vice President JD Vance, may have raided her closet for old prom clothes. One thing silent Usha did accomplish in her bubblegum pink coat dress was to stand out in the crowd. Oscar de la Renta created the coat/dress, but shhh — pink is an awful color for her. Someone? Please tell Oscar. He should have known.
The “good” news for Usha? She may never get to say a word, but we can remember her forever in bubblegum pink.
Admittedly, writing about fashion is a giant step away from Musk. Or maybe it isn’t?
Are Nazi salutes the new “fashion.” Dare we call him “President” Musk? Or will it soon be “Fuhrer” Musk?
Is it too scary to think that Musk is President Trump’s new alter-ego? Or, should we wonder whether Musk is Trump’s test case for Trump’s 2025 Plan to be used for picking apart all the protections our Constitution supposedly offers us?
We’ll soon know. As I write this, Trump is signing Executive Orders. First, he pardoned his Jan. 6th crowd of traitors who attacked the Capitol, killed police, and built gallows for Speaker Pelosi and the Vice President. The killers did not find them, but in the attack, they injured many of the Capitol’s defenders and did untold damage to the historic building and its many artifacts.
See my next report on the more than 100 Executive Orders that Trump has promised. These orders can be expected to damage progress on climate change, immigration, and other matters.
